Juno spacecraft has successfully reaches Jupiter orbit

Image
At a press conference following the probe's successful arrival in orbit around Jupiter, NASA showed a video shot by Juno on its approach of Jupiter's moons traveling around the planet, capturing for the first time the movement of objects around a celestial body. The $1 billion alternative to NASA  Juno is a spinning, robotic probe as wide as a basketball court. It will circle Jupiter 37 times for 20 months, diving down to about 2,600 miles (4,100 kilometers) above the planet's dense clouds. The seven science instruments on board will study Jupiter's auroras and help scientists better understand the planet's origins, structure, atmosphere and magnetosphere.     An onboard color camera called JunoCam will take "spectacular close-up, color images" of Jupiter, according to NASA. The space agency is asking the public to help decide where to point the camera. Three 1.5-inch Lego figurines are also on board Juno. One is a likeness of Galileo Galilei -- the s...

Web developer quality requires

1) Avoid becoming a “specialist” Trends on the Web move quickly. If you spend five years exclusively fine-tuning your knowledge of Drupal only to find that suddenly overnight everyone wants a WordPress site (or vice-versa) your prospects will be limited. 2) Stay in school Related to the above point, you need to ensure your qualifications and skills are always relevant and up-to-date. We don’t mean literally going back to college, but there are so many free or low cost courses available in every Web technology you can imagine, it’s a good idea to invest a little time in learning a new skill every month. 3) Be a good communicator The stereotypical geek is lousy at human interactions, so if you are a good communicator you are bound to stand out favorably. Being a good communicator requires a number of attributes: Be prompt and punctual. Nobody likes to be kept waiting. If you have genuine time issues, communicate them. Most employers will be willing to accommodate ...

Long term smoking can hamper your memory

The study led by McGill University additionally found that stopping smoking helps to restore at least part of the cortex's thickness. The team of researchers explained that cortex was the outer layer of the brain in which critical cognitive functions such as memory, language and perception take place. Dr Sherif Karama, lead author and assistant professor of psychiatry at McGill University said that current and ex-smokers with average age of 73 had many areas of thinner brain cortex than those that never smoked. Whereas, the ones who stopped smoking seemed to be partially recovered with the cortical thickness for each year without smoking. The study suggested that recovery was slow, as heavy ex-smokers in the study who had given up smoking for more than 25 years still had a thinner cortex. The researchers further added that the cortex grows thinner with normal aging, but smoking appears to accelerate the thinning process, and a thinner brain cortex was associated ...

World Cup 2015: For India to succeed, Virat Kohli must bat at No. 4

Image
In Perth, after India had lost their last tri-series match against England, skipper MS Dhoni sat in the press conference picking up the pieces. His team were still winless after three months on tour, and were faced with more questions than answers going into the 2015 ODI World Cup. Perhaps the biggest one pertained to Virat Kohli’s spot in the batting order. For the first time in the tri-series, he batted at his favoured position, number three. He didn’t last long, holing out in the deep as he went after Moeen Ali. On Sunday then, as India began their final run-in with a warm-up game against Australia, he again batted at the same spot. There was also similarity in the result, once more dismissed cheaply. Throughout this tri-series and warm-up games, as for much of last year, the Indian team has been experimenting with its batting line-up. While it is necessary to do so, this obviously hasn’t helped Kohli at all. In his last six 50-overs outings then, he has scored...

Image
Rajinikanth, born on December 12, 1950, is more, much more than a top-ranking actor. He’s a legend, a cultural icon unlike any other, an idol to the masses who worship him and call him ‘Thalaivar’. Even as Rajini turns 64, we turn the spotlight on the phenomenon that is Rajinikanth. Who would’ve thought the brooding man who made a quiet entry as an antagonist in K Balachander’s 1975 film, ‘Apoorva Raagangal’, would go on to become a veritable demigod of cinema, reigning supreme for three decades and more! Or, that a one-time bus conductor in Bangalore would be one of the highest paid Indian film actors of all time! That’s Rajinikanth for you. A man who’s lived the rags-to-riches story, becoming not only a fantastic entertainer, but a superhero to his fans who are legion. Humble beginnings Before he took on the screen name Rajinikanth, he was Shivajirao Gaekwad, child of a lower middle class family, who lost his mother when he was just 9. The young Shivajirao attended the Gavipuram g...
