Superstar Rajnikanth's much-awaited Tamil actioner 'Lingaa' will hit screens on December 12.

Reasons why 'Lingaa' star Rajnikanth rocks

1. Superstar Rajnikanth will, reportedly, play a double role in 'Lingaa'. Directed by K.S. Ravikumar, 'Lingaa' also stars Anushka Shetty, Sonakshi Sinha and Jagapathi Babu. Oscar winning music director A.R. Rahman will compose music for the film.

3. In the early films of Rajni, his tagline was ‘Style Mannan’ Rajnikanth. It means King of Style. In Indian cinema, he wears that crown with his own brand of panache. From the way he lit a cigarette in his very first film, to the way he flicks his unruly hair, walks, talks and dances, Rajni does it all in his own, unique style.

4. Kollywood’s current superstars, or pretenders to the title, are quite willing to let their on-screen heroics overwhelm their acting talents. Not so, Rajnikanth. A Film Institute product and protégé of master directors like K Balachander and Mahendran he has displayed his superb acting skills in films like ‘Moondru Mudichu’ and ‘Mullum Malarum’.

5. He was tall and dark, not at all like the accepted leading men of his day. His manner was different, too.  He spoke Tamil with an accent. And he went on to become the industry’s ultimate hero.

6. From his entry in black and white films like ‘Aboorva Ragangal’ to angry young man in ‘Baasha’ and ‘Thalapathy’ and romantic hero in ‘Johnny’ and scores of other entertainers like ‘Muthu’, ‘Nettrikkan’ and ‘Ninaithaale Inikkum’ Rajni films are huge blockbusters.

7. Few leading actors can pull off comedy the way Rajni can. Ask any Tamil film fan for their favourite full-length comedy and the answer will most likely be ‘Thillu Mullu’. Rajni is a laugh riot in every scene.

8.In image-conscious Kollywood, heroes aren’t always ok with playing characters with negative shades. But Rajni has never been afraid to experiment. Some of his memorable negative roles were in films like ’16 Vayathiniley’ and ‘Moondru Mudichu’.

9. In Kollywood, clever lines, or punch dialogues as they like to call them, are indicators of a movie’s popularity. Rajni has uttered some of the best. They are remembered, repeated and become part of common lingo.

10. Rajni’s rockstar status is enhanced by his lines.  ‘Andavan solran, Arunachalam seiran’ (God commands, I do); Pera kettale chumma adhirudille?’ (Aren’t you quaking at the mere mention of my name?) ;   ‘En vazhi, thani vazhi’ (My way is a unique way).
