Hokaahs were present earlier also, but now it has become a fashion statement. Recently, a research was carried out as per which, it has been unveiled that hokaah tobacco is less harmful than cigarette tobacco.
The research paper, presented at a meeting of the American Chemical Society, has found that hokaah tobacco and smoke is less toxic than cigarette tobacco and smoke. It has been said so as it contains reduced levels of four toxic metals.
Lead researcher Joseph Caruso said there is no doubt about the fact that comparing hookah smoking and cigarette smoking is difficult. It is because both are done differently.
But this cannot restrict them from affirming that smoking in any form is harmful.

Their study's main aim is to bring a clearer picture of the dangers that are associated with hokaah and cigarette smoking.
In order to reach at the above given result, the researchers collected 12 different varieties of hokaah tobacco. After carrying out tests on them, it was unveiled that hokaah tobacco contains fewer toxic metals like arsenic, lead, chromium and cadmium.
"We found that water-pipe smoking is not a safe alternative to cigarette smoking, nor is it likely to be an effective harm-reduction strategy", said the researchers.
